Tennis ace Serena Williams has reportedly welcomed her first child with Reddit tech boss Alexis Ohanian.

Reports emerged on Friday (01Sep17) suggesting the champion was in labor and Florida reporter Chris Shepherd has confirmed the speculation by announcing the birth on his Twitter account hours after the rumors first surfaced.

Shepherd tweeted: "Tennis star Serena Williams gives birth to a baby girl weighing 6 pounds, 13 ounces. Mom and baby doing well."

He later noted he received the information from a hospital source. Serena was reportedly admitted to St. Mary's Medical Center in Palm Beach, Florida on Wednesday (30Aug17) and induced on Thursday night (31Aug17).

She and her fiance Alexis, who became engaged last year (Dec16), have yet to comment, but the athlete's pal Beyonce, who recently became a mom to twins, has confirmed the happy news on Instagram.

She shared a photo of the tennis star and added the caption: "Congratulations Serena!"

Williams' sister Venus was also thrilled by the baby news as she prepared for her U.S. Open tennis match in New York on Friday (01Sep17), telling sports news network ESPN, "Obviously I'm super excited. Words can't describe."
