Adele's 21 makes it to 21 weeks on top

Adele has beaten Whitney Houston's Billboard album chart record by becoming the first female artist to land 21 weeks at number one with her hit album 21.

The singer managed the feat on Wednesday (22Feb12) - over a year after the album first hit the top spot.

The Brit breaks Houston's record for The Bodyguard soundtrack just 11 days after the I Will Always Love You singer died in a Los Angeles hotel suite on the eve of the Grammy Awards, where Adele scooped six honours, including Album of the Year for 21.

It's also a great week on the singles chart for the soul sensation - her three former number ones all land top 10 spots, making her the first solo female artist to land three top 10s in the same week.

Adele's run begins with Set Fire to the Rain at two, while her Grammys Record and Song of the Year Rolling in the Deep re-enters the top 10 at five and ballad Someone Like You jumps up four spots from 11 to seven.

But Katy Perry is back at the top of the pop charts after becoming only the 20th artist to debut at number one. The pop star's Part of Me, which she performed at the Grammy Awards on 12 February (12), has rocketed into the Billboard Hot 100. It's the singer's seventh number one hit.
