Skyfall, the 23rd and latest installment of the storied James Bond franchise, is currently sitting pretty in the #2 spot at the box office this week (second only to the final chapter of another insanely successful franchise, Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2). With it comes Daniel Craig’s third appearance as the famous secret agent, and the sixth man overall to don the souped-up tuxedo.
Yes, James Bond has evolved quite a bit over the 50 years he’s been thrilling audiences, but one thing that has remained consistent through all the various films is the notorious Bond Girl! The faces and those crazy names have changed from movie to movie, but every Bond Girl has proven to be a force to be reckoned with in her own right! These are no shrinking violets (well, okay, maybe not Tayna Roberts… but she was in Sheena, so that makes up for it). These are women who are often just as clever – if not even more clever – than Bond himself. And there’s almost always two of them: the Good Bond Girl, who possesses a unique set of skills which help 007 save the day; and the Bad Bond Girl, whose wiles just can’t be resisted and also displays some sort of specialty that makes her invaluable to (and oftentimes more dangerous than) the main male villain. Starting with Ursula Andress in 1962’s Dr. No, continuing with the likes of Jane Seymour, Honor Blackman, Maud Adams, Grace Jones, and all the way up to more recently with Famke Janssen, Teri Hatcher, Denise Richards, Halle Berry, and Eva Green, these ladies know how to kick some serious butt and make James Bond… smile.
With Skyfall, we get two new gorgeous and intelligent ladies both helping and hindering 007’s mission, and we recently had both of them in the Studio! Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe are not only really nice to look at, but both of them can handle a weapon or two. Do not mess with a Bond Girl!
So, today let’s give thanks to all those gals who have both put a smile on James Bond’s face or tried to put a knife in his back (a sexy knife though)! Check out our interviews with Skyfall’s leading ladies below:
