ULTIMATE INSIDER: AMAs Celebrate 4 Decades of Music Excellence

The American Music Awards turns the Big 4-0 this year, quite a milestone that puts the ceremony right up there with the most prestigious in entertainment! Originally created as a spin-off of sorts by Dick Clark to compete with the mighty Grammy Awards, the AMAs have evolved and grown into their own in the past four decades. Whereas the Grammy Awards are given out based on votes from members of the entertainment industry, the AMAs take a slightly more scientific approach – music buyers vote on the winners taking into consideration such things like amount of airplay, sales (of course), and, in recent years, online/social media presence. Ever since then, the AMAs have been on the forefront of the digital revolution.

It’s all pretty simple – if you dominate radio and social media, you can expect an AMA nomination or two! So, in honor of the ceremony coming up this Sunday (November 18), here are some of my favorite segments that we’ve done with a few of this year’s nominees!
