If you’re not on the New Media train by now, you might want to book a ticket soon… Or, at the very least, get yourself to the Anaheim Convention Center later this week for the 3rd annual VidCon!
Starting this Thursday, June 28, between 6,000 and 8,000 online media aficionados will descend upon what is considered the largest online video convention in the world, gathering together some of the biggest players in the New Media game that account for billions of online video views – think of it as ComicCon for YouTube Stars!
Let’s face it, YouTube is rapidly becoming THE platform for upstart filmmakers and entrepreneurs. Low-budget no longer equals low-quality, as exhibited by some of the fantastic new YouTube channels, shows, and webisodes… all intermingling with funny cat videos and amateur music covers. Gotta love the internet!
VidCon founders Hank and John Green certainly know a thing or two about YouTube’s evolution; they are the stars of the Vlogbrothers channel, which boasts an incredible 694,000+ subscribers and over 230 million views! Sponsors, aside from YouTube, include Disney, Maker, and Alloy Digital… In fact, the entire final day of the event is dedicated solely to kicking back at Disneyland and California Adventures… not too shabby!
The conference aims to bring together some of the best and brightest tastemakers and trendsetters in the online video world to promote the growth of the medium. And as the platform grows, so does the convention – this year, it had to move to the Anaheim Convention Center to accommodate the expanding number of attendees!
Online video is the wave of the future. To be a part of it, just make an awesome video! Or, just check out VidCon this weekend to see how the experts are doing it – get your ticket info here. Enjoy!
