If Hollywood is the land where dreams are made, then the Sweet! shop in Hollywood is the candyland where all your sweetest dreams come true!
Recently opened at the Hollywood & Highland complex, just steps away from other landmarks like Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and the Hollywood Walk of Fame, is every sugar lover’s wildest fantasy! If you are one of those people that watches Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and wishes it was real life, Sweet! is pretty much as close as it gets.
When you first walk in through the main entrance, you might find yourself a little disappointed at first, as it looks like nothing more than your run-of-the-mill Hollywood souvenir shop with some novelty candy thrown in. But then, you notice another entrance on the other side of the room, a virtual gateway to Sugar Heaven! Flashing signs and colorful displays beckon you inside, and just like that, you’ve entered the last stop for your aching sweet tooth!
Shelves upon shelves of every type of candy you can think of, from your classics, to your throwbacks, to lesser-known confections, if you can’t find it here, then you are just not a candy fan, period! But Sweet! does not just stop at well-stocked shelves – there are at least two custom candy-making stations within the store, one that specializes in handmade hard candy...
... and another where you can create your own candy bar!
To top it all off, at the back of the store is another room which is, literally, Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory! First of all, I have to say that, of all the areas of the Sweet! store, this one by far smelled the most amazing! Must be all that chocolate… Secondly, you are greeted at the door by Mr. Willy Wonka himself! Okay, a REALLY good impersonator, doing his best riff on the Johnny Depp version of the character.
Even if you’re not the biggest sweets fan, this place has to be seen and experienced. Be warned, though, it does get a bit pricey – a single Wonka bar can set you back about 6 bucks – but if you’re the sort of person who prefers dessert first, it’s well worth it!
