RECAP: YH's 2012 Olympics Victory Tour!

With the Paralympics coming to a close this coming Sunday (September 9), London will officially close the books on the 30th Summer Olympiad, certainly one to remember, and definitely an eventful time for us here at YH!

Every four years, stars are created in the fields of sport; athletes whose names we previously had never heard are suddenly on everyone’s lips, thanks to their world-class performances at the Olympic games. All that training, those sacrifices, and sometimes thankless little triumphs finally pay off in the biggest way possible and in front of the biggest audience possible. One day, you’re slaving away countless hours at your local gym or swimming pool – and the next, your face is on a box of Wheaties!

Three such victorious Olympians included swimmer Nathan Adrian, sprinter Allyson Felix, and gymnast Aly Raisman. All three were tops in their fields but were overshadowed, at least initially, in the media but other favorites (Michael Phelps, Carmelita Jeter, Gabby Douglas, etc), only to emerge as heroes in their own right. We shined the spotlight on these three amazing individuals and invited them to the Studio to reflect on their achievements… and even show off their golden hardware!

Additionally, we headed all the way out to New York City to catch up with a fourth Olympics luminary, swimmer Dana Vollmer, who not only took home a Gold medal for the 100m Butterfly, she broke a couple records while doing so, setting a world record for speed! (That, after having bested her own American record and smashing the old Olympic record during the qualifying rounds!) She also took home Gold in two relay races… setting another world record in the process, by the way.

Our sincerest congrats to athletes who came by to chat with us and to ALL the athletes who got the opportunity to show the world what their best during the 2012 Olympic Games! It was quite a summer!
