Will 'Man of Steel' Turn Out to Be Nolan's Film at the End of the Day?

Just when it seems that Christopher Nolan has left the superhero genre behind him for good, he surprises us all once again by showing us that he is not quite done yet. Along with the release of The Dark Knight Rises, the new teaser trailer for Man of Steel has also premiered.

Even though the film is directed by Zack Snyder, it looks like Nolan made it himself. The trailer starts off with with some simple images -- clothes waving in the wind on a clothesline, a fishing boat rocking back and forth under an overcast sky, and there is even a man hitchhiking (which turns out to be Henry Cavill). It doesn’t seem much like a superhero movie until the very end. A little boy puts on a red cape in his yard, which then cuts to an image of Superman zooming into the sky with great speed. The dramatic music and faceless narrator in the trailer are nice touches as well.

Everything about this trailer screams Nolan. Snyder is known for a his more stylized themes that mimic graphic novels, but none of that can be discerned in this trailer. It appears maybe Snyder has grown up while working with Nolan and looks like he is now a more polished filmmaker. With Nolan coming up with the story as well as producing the film, I am sure that their respective styles influenced each other greatly.

I cannot wait until this film hits theaters next summer so I can see this collaboration between Nolan and Snyder come together. I believe that Nolan will not disappoint with his strong storyline. As for Snyder, I think this film will he's not just the graphic novels guy; he is capable of making a mature and beloved film.
