Warner Bros. Puts Together Lego Animated Feature

If Battleship had a threeway with Toy Story and Wreck-It Ralph, you might perhaps produce something along the lines of Lego: The Piece of Resistance.

And as much as I would love to take credit for that little bit of cleverness, it is, in fact, quite true that a movie about a Lego is in production. Yes, it is an animated film, so no kick-ass fight scenes involving a uniformed Liam Neeson beating up rogue interlocking children’s toys. No… Neeson will actually be voicing a bad guy (!!).

Set to be directed by the fellas who brought us the 21 Jump Street reboot earlier this year, Phil Lord and Chris Miller (the latter also helmed Puss In Boots), as well as Chris McKay, the story will revolve around a Lego figure (voiced by Chris Pratt) who gets caught up in an evil scheme involving a Lego tyrant who wants to – GASP – glue all the pieces together!!! Blasphemy!

Other vocal talents will include Will Ferrell, Will Arnett, Morgan Freeman (of course), Nick Offerman, Elizabeth Banks, and Alison Brie. This movie sounds like a suitable satiric comment on all the brand-heavy big-budget features nowadays. Especially given the news that movies based on Risk, Monopoly, Candyland, and Ouija boards are currently in development… What, no love for Hungry Hungry Hippos?

Lego: The Piece of Resistance is slated to hit theatres in early 2014.
