A spotlight shines down on a white piano engulfed in smoke, slowly spinning as it plays ghostly by itself. Suddenly the music cuts off and its pitch black. When the lights bump up, Alicia Keys, dressed in all white with sliver sparkle heels, has magically appeared behind the board. Natch, the audience erupts! She dives into the keys and whips into one of the best live shows I've seen in ages. It honestly makes me think she's severely underrated, by the media in general, so I've got to say this show is what's hot!Alicia mixes it up, she does songs with the full band behind her, she rocks the mic and struts her stuff, she has backup dantickets.com/concerts/alicicers and she breaks it down with just her at the piano on stage. Girlfriend works it out!Particularly moving was her live version of Super Woman, evoking outbursts of singing, gospel hands and head bobbing from the crowd. And by that I mean myself and the girls next to me. We had many bonding moments during the show; I have no idea who they were. But fun!At one point Miss Keys stood up from behind the piano to address the audience and I said, Don't you feel like she's really talking...to you?ù Because even Alicia's speaking voice is just so captivating, she really grabs you.One of the girls replied, Oh, yes! She's definitely speaking to me. I just wish I could put my arms around her right now. That's my girl!ùLike I said, fun. Yet brief moments in a well-rounded and thoroughly entertaining show. For the most part, I was completely unaware of my surroundings. I just couldn't take my eyes off Alicia. She was spellbinding.Once again my buddy MK over at Popbytes worked tickets to a choice show, so big ups to his awesomeness. He got us right up close. My favorite part was during her stripped down version of How Come You Don't Call Me, just her singing and playing. She's so in the moment that right in the middle of the song she stops, stands up and smacks the piano, like, dang! Come on! How Come You Don't Call Me, huh? Shoot! It was such a great moment, everyone rolled with laughter because you know we've all been feeling that. Love sick. She takes you there.Catch it if you can! Alicia is touring in the US through the end of June. And of course, if you're just looking for some good music, her new album is in stores --Wes
