I'm a sucker for a wicked cool name. Simply seeing the moniker Vampire Weekend' I thought to myself, I must hear their music. I wasn't disappointed. If you're into indy rock, you won't be either. You may want to classify them as 'folk' and it's apt, but the band shows more afro-pop influences. Afro-pop is a vast and varied genre that includes a healthy mix of musical traditions from Africa, brought to the US during the slave trade. These rhythms and sounds were later adapted by rock, rhythm and blues. That's a little music history lesson for the day. With their eponymous (self-titled) debut album, Vampire Weekend scored with a hot single and fast-action music video for their song, A-Punk.
