I talk to True Blood's bad girl Kristin Bauer about her real-life good works!

On True Blood, My first day of working was after [shooting a movie in the Philippines and] flying back to the US 17-hours the day before and being jet lagged as hell, she tells me. I was just happy to be able to stay on my feet. Beyond that I had no thoughts of the future. The success of the show has been a lovely gift, she tells me.

She describes playing Pam as awesome, adding, I get Pam's viewpoint and I think she's not far off from a very sane way to look at life. Maybe I'm losing my mind, but I get her and don't even see her as a bad girl anymore. Should I be worried?

I think she's safe unless she starts biting necks.

Obviously being on a hit show gets attention, and that focus can be used to highlight important social topics. Kristin is involved with a group called IFAW, the International Fund for Animal Welfare.

I have a theory that a vast majority of people are basically good, so all you have to do is tell them about something and they will help in any way they can, she says. I got to know about IFAW from my family. For the adults at Christmas we do donations to a charity as gifts for each other, and my sister always gives me a donation to IFAW.

Now, she's spreading the word about their new initiative called The Tails for Whales campaign. This Tails for Whales campaign is extremely clever, she says. It's so easy, fun and doable for anyone's schedule because it only takes 4 minutes and costs you nothing. It is the easiest way to stop the extremely unnecessary deaths of whales. There is something you can do about it.

It's super easy to get involved. All you have to do to help these gentle giants is to take a photo of yourself making a whale tail with your hands and email it to IFAW, Kristin says. They will do the rest.

To help, go to www.ifaw.org/tailsforwhales and submit your photo. You can also visit www.ifaw.org to learn more about whales and urge your representative to co-sponsor the International Whale Conservation and Protection Act.
