In the High School Musical movies Bart Johnson teaches the boys how to ball, but in real life he's an adventuresome movie hustler! Thanks to the magic of the internet, we got to gab about his pet project. ME: I heard you made a bet with a movie producer that took you on a trek across the country? Give me the deets... B: I wrote and directed my first film last summer down in called THE RUN. It's a short film I made down in Mexico. I'd been shopping around and met an investor who was very interested. About 3 weeks ago we told him about a time on a surf trip when my brothers and I had to hitch hike in Mexico and the great adventure we had. He said he would fund the film if we could hitch hike from my house in the Hollywood Hills, 1,200 miles across the Baja Desert and all the way to Cabo with no money. I took the challenge. He sent a camera crew to make sure we didn't cheat. My two brothers (Adam & Brad) emptied our pockets, grabbed our surfboards and with nothing but the clothes on our backs, $6 and a bottle of water, we hit the road. (NOTE: don't try this at home! These are 3 grown men and a camera crew!) We got rides in the back of cattle trucks, diesel trucks, horse trailers, stuck in a sand storm, rain, you name it. We took baths in the ocean any chance we could get, but it was brutal. On day 3 we broke down and used a couple of our dollars on tooth brushes. OMG crazy! When can we see it? Ocean dips for baths and days on end without a toothbrush? Now there's a man willing to suffer for his art! Word.
