Top Ladies of Television

Women are ruling the small-screen. There are so many talented actresses on television at the moment, it's hard to pick favorites! Comedic or dramatic roles, new starlets or TV vets, women are dominating some of the best shows on television. Here are some of the females making waves on television at the moment!

Lucy Hale currently stars on the teen show, "Pretty Little Liars." She made her start on the reality show, "American Juniors," eventually winning a spot in the pop group. Since then, she starred in the short-lived series, "Privileged", and had a cameo in Scream 4. Lucy is striking and charismatic. Her wide-eyed, likeable personality lights up TV screens, making her a young actress to watch.

Kat Dennings is known largely for her film roles, including The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Charlie Bartlett, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, and Thor. She has recently added Sitcom Star to her repertoire, as she is currently bringing her unique charm to CBS's "2 Broke Girls." Her sarcastic, deadpan humor is without question the highlight of the series.

Jane Lynch is comedy gold. Her role as the aggressive, outspoken, glee club-hating Sue Sylvester on "Glee" has made her a household name. She recently hosted the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards -- only the third woman to host the event solo. Jane has had many film and TV roles over the years, bringing her brand of comedy to everything she does. Some of her standout roles include "Arrested Development," Role Models, and "Party Down," as well as guest spots on some of TV's greatest shows.

Leighton Meester plays every teenage girl's style icon, the determined Blair Waldorf on "Gossip Girl." Leighton's sweet charm and her ability to play multi-faceted roles make her stand out from the crowd. In the last year, she has concentrated on film work as well, appearing in Country Strong, The Roommate, and Monte Carlo. With her budding musical career, Leighton is a true talent in whatever she does.

Everyone knows Courteney Cox from her iconic role as Monica Gellar on "Friends." However, her work on "Cougar Town" has brought her back to the small screen with a vengeance -- she received her first Golden Globe nomination for her role on the show. Courteney's charm, wit, and eccentric characters make her one of the best television has to offer.

Sarah Michelle Gellar's return to TV has been creating tons of buzz. She is best known as playing Buffy on "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" for seven seasons. In recent years, she has focused on film roles and voiceover work. Sarah recently returned to the small screen with the mysterious thriller, "Ringer." The show has been getting positive reviews, and ratings have been solid. Sarah is a true presence on television and is not one to be missed.

Nina Dobrev is known for her break-out role on "The Vampire Diaries." Before that, she played teen mother Mia on "Degrassi: The Next Generation" for four seasons, before appearing in the cast of the High School Musical-esque, "The American Mall." Nina is a true talent, known for her stunning beauty and dramatic teen-oriented roles.

Edie Falco is best known for her roles on "Oz," "The Sopranos," and, currently, "Nurse Jackie." She is able to play a variety of roles, both comedic and dramatic. In fact, she is the first actress to win an Emmy for both Outstanding Actress in a Comedy as well as Outstanding Actress in a Drama. "Nurse Jackie" is a dark comedy that allows Edie to showcase her incredible acting abilities.

Tina Fey was named one of Forbes Magazine's highest paid women on television for 2011. Her role in "30 Rock" has led to numerous awards and nominations for both herself and the show. Tina Fey has been a television presence for some time, having been a writer for "Saturday Night Live" before becoming a performer on the show. She is also known for her film work, including Mean Girls, Baby Mama and Date Night, as well as her best-selling book, Bossypants.

Zooey Deschanel is a successful musician as well as an actress. She is known for her distinct voice and overwhelming charm. Having been in films such as Elf, Failure To Launch, Yes Man, and (500) Days Of Summer, she recently made the move to television. Her quirky, charming new show, "New Girl", began this fall. Zooey is delightful and quirky. She brings this presence to her new show, truly making it one of the most buzzed-about this season.

Each of these women stand out in their own way. They make big impacts to television by bringing their incredible talents to everything they do, bringing the small screen to life!
