" Three 6 Mafia blazed their way from Tennessee to Hollywood with a cult-like following and a burning passion. Once settled, it didn't take them long to attain recognition after winning an Oscar for Best Song in Hustle and Flow.
And that's just the beginning for this eclectic group of talent. They now have their sights on making films, and the rappers just finished taping 8 episodes of a new reality series, Adventures in Hollyhood.
Reaching superstardom didn't happen overnight for this gifted rap group, but they have achieved it and have figured out how to handle it with ease. Maybe it's their Southern disposition; maybe it's their loyalty to each other or their humble beginnings. Whatever the case maybe, their fan base keeps getting larger. The core members are Crunchy Black, Gangsta Boo, Lord Infamous, Koopsta Knicca, Juicy J and DJ Paul. They are recognized for their gritty raps about drugs, violence and pornography needless to say, this is where they attained their dark image. This malevolent image combined with their originality and talent certainly sets them apart from other hip hop groups.
Not only has the group perfected crunk hip hop (which can be defined as a combination of Dirty Dirty South, Memphis rap and little bit of Miami), they were the first ensemble from Memphis to go platinum and the second hip hop group to win an Oscar. Those are some hefty accomplishments from artists who originally prided themselves in being underground yet, they certainly have effortlessly transitioned into the spotlight. Most recently, MTV followed Three 6 Mafia around during their daily lives and created a new comedy reality show. This series showcases each artists' unique personality and explores how they acclimate to their Young Hollywood lifestyle while maintaining their Southern traits of keeping it real.
Viewers will get a glimpse of the group's lifestyle, watch them create their favorite home cooked meals and experience their new music firsthand. Back in the day, Three 6 Mafia probably never thought that their music would eventually be downloaded as a ring tone, but they have adapted quickly to their success. Three 6 Mafia has shown Young Hollywood that you can achieve your dream, embrace your originality and keep it real.
