The Stars Unite to Stand Up 2 Cancer

While Hollywood was buzzing about all the various and sundry goings-on at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards this past weekend, another major event went down not too far away at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Friday night, dozens of celebrities came together for the annual Stand Up to Cancer fundraising telecast to collect some much-needed funds to go toward cancer research.

Co-produced by Gwyneth Paltrow, the telecast was beamed out via all the major broadcast networks in addition to utilizing pretty much any social media platform available in order to get the word out. In addition to funding breakthrough cancer treatments, SU2C is also dedicated to narrowing the gap between developing those treatments and actually delivering them to the patients that need them.

Innumerable celebrities have committed their time to the cause, both during the telecast and year-round. Just come of the stars on hand to participate in the telecast included Robert Pattinson, Jeremy Renner, Jessica Biel, Samuel L. Jackson, Minka Kelly, and “Modern Family” stars Tyler Burrell, Eric Stonestreet, and Sofia Vergara. Dr. Drew, Joe Manganiello, Chelsea Handler, Jillian Michaels, and even Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas took their turns on the phone lines to accept donations, while Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, and more entertained the crowd.
