The popular show, The Soup, which originally was called Talk Soup, first aired in 1991 on the E! Network. The show poked fun at the previous day's funniest TV moments and used a host to lead off the clips with witty commentary. Little Miss Sunshine star, Greg Kinnear, was the original host of the show and received a Daytime Emmy Award for his involvement. Hosts that soon followed in his footsteps included John Henson, Hal Sparks and Aisha Tyler. The show may have undergone a title change, but the format has remained the same. The Soup still reflects on the week's craziest TV moments including reality, entertainment, and talk show clips. Their motto, We watch TV, so you don't have to, is no joke as they never miss an offbeat or hilarious moment of television. The Soup is now hosted and co-written by actor, Joel McHale, who uses frequent ad-libbing and sarcasm to keep the flow going. The studio audience consists of a small group of E! employees who laugh along at the clips and cheer when their favorite clip plays. One of the featured segments that was carried over from the original show is called Chat Stew. This segment shows clips from various talk shows and is introduced with a CGI Crock Pot filled with talk show logos and host heads. Clips are frequently featured from The Tyra Banks Show, The View, and Oprah. Another feature is the Hollywood Access Extra Insider Entertainment Report, which compiles the week's most interesting entertainment news moments and how all the shows are usually clamoring to break the latest news in their own unique ways. The Soup has a charming way of making fun of pop culture and even manages to get by with taking jabs at shows on its own network, including The Girls Next Door and Sunset Tan. In this chaotic world, what could be better than having someone recap the best of everything you missed in television during the work week into one hilarious half-hour? The Soup airs on E! on Fridays at 10:00 PM PST. Tags: food
