"The Simpsons" Celebrate #500 With a Record-Breaking Marathon

On February 19, “The Simpsons” premiere its 500th episode! In observance of the milestone, Fox is inviting “Simpsons” super-fans to participate in a viewing marathon that will hopefully lead to the breaking of a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous television viewing. The current record is held at 86 hours, 6 minutes, and 41 seconds.

The “Ultimate Fan Marathon Challenge” will be held in Los Angeles and will begin on February 8 and end on February 19 with the 500th episode... a marathon of 500 continuous shows! The person that stays the longest at the event will win $10,500 and exclusive merchandise!

In Season 13 of “The Simpsons”, an episode spoofed on trying to break the Guinness World Record with the largest human pyramid. Homer attempted to break the record by gathering everyone in Springfield together, but instead everyone came crashing down and townsmen decided that the town is instead the fattest.

The animated series has already broken a handful of records on its own, including being the longest running animated series, the longest running sitcom, and the most Emmy Awards received for an animated series. It has been nominated for a Golden Globe and 114 other nominations and has won 110 total awards.

“The Simpsons” series is prominently known for the plethora of guest stars featured in the episodes. This spring, expect to hear the voices of Lady Gaga, Michael Cera, Bryan Cranston, Jeremy Irons, Armie Hammer, and Glenn Close in episodes.
