Hollywood loves a good diet, complete with before-and-after photos, but do we really need to lose weight to look great? Now, I don't want to start a thing here. Size is not the issue. I'm into fitness. I advocate healthy choices. I've written dozens of lifestyle articles, interviewing top celebrity trainers and highlighting new fitness trends. However, I have never suggested that anybody needs to lose weight. The goal here at YH is to make you feel like a superstar, not give you a complex! So it was with slight trepidation that I settled in to recommend Oxygen's new reality competition, Dance Your Ass Off. Would it send a mixed message? With all that said; when you look good -- you feel good. But looking good is subjective, and that's where the right outlook plays a key role. When you're happy, satisfied and feeling fantastic, suddenly the person in the mirror is a brighter reflection looking back at you. It's clear within the first few minutes that the show is not about radical, unhealthy transformations. The premise is simple: men & women compete in a dance-off that serves as a springboard to make positive changes in their lives. The show features contestants who want to be more active in their daily lives. They're paired with a professional partner who teaches them everything from Hip Hop to Ballroom and even Pole Dancing! The joy of Dance Your Ass Off is seeing the contestants begin to recognize their beauty, inside and out. My favorites are those who own their size and dance like nobody is watching. When it's about loving oneself and being a better, healthier person, everybody goes home a winner. For more on the show, contestant bios & local show times, visit dyao.oxygen.com
