The exclusive invite-only creative industry networking group, The Power Hour, brought out some of Manhattan's best and brightest out to downtown hot spot Jezebel for their first annual Christmahanakwanza party benefiting Toys 4 Tots! The Power Hour was founded in the spring of 2012 by publicists Marni Eth, Natasha Zeller, and Yours Truly. I had been living in New York for almost three years, and I hadn't found a mentor yet, but then I started looking around at all of the amazing young people I worked with everyday, and a light bulb went off. That's when I knew I should refocus on peer mentorship, bringing together people who are smart, passionate, and making waves in their respective career paths. Unfortunately, most networking groups can be bland and open to the public -- we are strictly invite-only. I approached my friends Marni and Natasha, they loved the idea, and the rest is history. I'm really proud of what we have been able to accomplish in such a short amount of time!
The Power Hour NYC launched in July of 2012 with an intimate cocktail party in the Meat Packing at Beaumarchais, which brought out reps from some of the city's top media and public relation firms."What works for us is that we all offer a different point of view and aesthetic," says co-founder Zeller. "Marni really knows the music industry well, I have a lot of experience in the luxury fashion market, and Wael knows celebrities and entertainment like the back of his hand. Our goal for our events is quality over quantity. We don't always agree, but we have respect for each other's opinions. It's the perfect storm, and that's why it works so well."
The holiday party did not disappoint! Guests included E! News anchor Alicia Quarles, actress Jennifer Missoni, TV personality and entrepreneur Lo Bosworth, CEO and founder of Homepolish.com Noa Santos, Silver Medallion, DJ Louie XIV, editors Lorna Solano, Samantha Lim, Amanda Gabrielle, blogger Jenna Burke, social media correspondent Michael Tommasiello, as well as professionals from Pomelatto jewelry, ICED Media, This is Mission, Nike Communications, Mindy Weiss, Digital Brand Architects, NBC Universal, VH1, MTV, Factory PR, Dan Khlores Communications, Lot 17 Media, among others. Partygoers enjoyed complimentary beverages by Reyka Vodka, Bulldog London Dry Gin, and Mercy anti-hangover water, while Marines were on hand to collect toys throughout the night. The event raised over 100 toys for tots! The Power Hour seeks to expand to L.A and Washington D.C. in 2013.
