The 1980's don't to want to go away anytime soon. We still love the television shows and movies from the era " even though they don't really hold up well. For every year a decade reaches, that decade's true style goes back 20 years for inspiration. For instance, in the 90's we went back to some of the 70s looks -- bell bottoms and the tall sneakers with 4 inches of extra heel.
Well, the 80s are back in clothes and music: the long beaded necklaces, jean jackets, colorful shirts and colored jeans, guys wearing pink, aviator glasses, and of course, the synthesizers and pop hooks that made New Wave the New Fad. Perhaps in 10 years, we may be back to fleece vests and khaki pants of the late 90s. Big hair remains one elusive trend that has managed to stay in the decade, but everything else has come back with a vengeance. The 80s were the Me decade, the Greed decade, the yuppie decade. College graduates entered the workplace with more money to buy more toys. And those toys were plentiful.Videogames made their debut. The popular Space Invaders arcade game (first released in 1978), were followed by Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and Frogger. Towards the end of the decade, home video game consoles begin put arcades out of business. The Japanese Famicom was released to the American public as the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1985.Other high end and kitchy toys made an appearance. It was the decade of the Rubik's Cube, Cabbage Patch Kids, and Teddy Ruxpin, as well as Rainbow Brite, Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears, and My Little Pony. Many of these toys have reappeared some twenty years later in slightly updated versions. Case in point: this summer's release of The Transformers movie. And, PARACHUTE PANTS? Well, lets just say we're glad not everything came back.
