Taylor Swift received top honors at last night’s American Music Awards, winning Artist of the Year, Favorite Country Album, and Favorite Country Female Artist.

The 39th annual American Music Awards lived up to the media hype last night as Nicki Minaj kicked things off by revving up the audience with an electric-robotic performance, including her chart-topping hit, “Super Bass.”

The first award of the night went to Maroon 5 for Best Pop/Rock Artist in the Band, Duo, or Group category.

Moving the show along were performances by Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, The Band Perry, Chris Brown, Kelly Clarkson, Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez, OneRepublic, Pitbull & Marc Anthony, Katy Perry, Mary J. Blige, Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera, Gym Class Heroes, Drake, Daughtry, and Will.i.am.

For viewers last night, they witnessed an event that made AMA history: after performing her new single, "The One That Got Away," Katy Perry received an achievement award for being the first female artist to have five No. 1 singles from one album (Teenage Dream).

“Can I just say, thank you so much for letting me be a chameleon this year," the singer said during her acceptance speech. "I want to thank my band and all the people that came out to see me, and all of you guys, 'cause you're pretty cool too!"

The last award of the night was the prestigious Artist of the Year, going to Taylor Swift, beating out the likes of Katy Perry, Lil Wayne, Adele, and Lady Gaga.

"This is one of the craziest things that has ever happened to me," the country cutie said while accepting the award. "To be nominated alongside artists I'm a superfan of ... Thank you so much to the fans, to the fans, and also to the fans! I love you guys so much.”

LMFAO closed out the show performing their smash hits “Party Rock Anthem” and “Sexy and I Know It,” bringing the audience to their feet. Look closely and you’ll see Justin Bieber hit the stage to bust out some sweet dance moves as Selena looks on from the audience...
