Is your sweet tooth worth $1,000?!
Next time you pop into your local bakery, will you be ordering your standard vanilla sponge cupcake with pink icing and a few sprinkles, or will you be indulging in a 23-karat gold cupcake made with edible gold leaves, gold Ugandan vanilla beans, and Amedei Porcelena cocoa from Italy?
Introducing the world’s most expensive edible cupcake, and as you can’t simply have a cupcake at this price without giving it a fancy name, it has been labeled "The Golden Phoenix". Sounds like a film I know. The founder of Bloomsbury's Cupcakes, Shafeena Yusuff Ali, invented this edible creation. Shafeena hasn’t received all praise and positive remarks about her golden desert, however; many people are naming the fairytale cake "pointless", "a waste of money", and even "ugly"!
But it isn’t just Bloomsbury's Cupcakes that are creating outrageously expensive dishes to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Setting a Guinness World Record for the most expensive dessert, Serendipity 3 previously unveiled a $25,000 chocolate sundae. Teaming up with jeweler Euphoria New York to create the Frozen Haute Chocolate back in 2007, the dessert, made from a mixture of 28 different cocoas from all around the world, is infused with 5 grams of edible 23-karat gold and served in a goblet lined with edible gold. If that wasn’t enough bling for you, the sundae is topped with whipped cream, a little bit more gold, and a side of La Madeline au Truffle from Knipschildt Chocolatier, which is worth around $2,600 for just a pound. To make the purchase worth your while, they even throw in a few gifts -- an 18K gold bracelet with a carat's worth of diamonds that rests at the base of the goblet and a gold spoon set with white and chocolate-colored diamonds. Quite some splurge to satisfy your sweet tooth!

Long gone are the days of sharing a tub of Ben & Jerry’s in front of the TV for date night; now its all about indulging in gold encrusted desserts and expensive coco beans! Will you be taking out a bank loan anytime soon to indulge in a sweet treat? I think we'll just stick to a good ol' Sprinkles Sundae for the time being!
