My fellow Americans, after about two decades of languishing in development hell (yes, sometimes even Steven Spielberg can’t get a project off the ground), Lincoln is finally upon us. It’s rather appropriate that this movie should finally see the light of day in November 2012 – during a Presidential election. While we squabble and debate who should be our president for the next four years, we pause at the movie theatres to look back on one of our greatest.
A couple weeks ago, I took a long hard look at the poster art and production photos available for Spielberg’s presidential biopic. As the release date draws near, we have yet to see a full trailer for this film… But that’s soon about to change!
This Thursday, September 13, Steven Spielberg and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who plays Abe’s son, Robert Todd) will host a Google+ Hangout wherein they will personally debut the first official trailer for the film, and we will finally get to see multiple Oscar-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis in his full glory! It’s certainly an interesting marketing strategy, giving fans more intimate access to this soon-to-be-showered-in-awards-and-accolades film. Much like most social media, it narrows the gap between the public and talent, and Google+ certainly seems to be catching up with Facebook and Twitter in that regard. (Check out the Google+ Hangouts we ourselves here at YH have had on YouTube, here and here!)
To join in on the live stream, just go to lincolnmoviehangout.com to RSVP; those interested in joining the discussion and/or ask Spielberg and JGL questions are encouraged to submit their own YouTube video that utilizes the #LincolnHangout hashtag. Honest Abe gets the 21st century treatment!
In the meantime, check out the very short, very teasey teaser for Lincoln below, to get a teeny sample of what to expect on Thursday… Watch this space for the full trailer!!!
