Not many rappers get compared to Eminem. Asher Roth

In other words, aside from skin tone the two couldn't be more different. Roth is a middle-class kid from the suburbs and he doesn't try to hide it.

Roth has also stated that he often felt on the outside, looking in. While there is no doubt that hip hop has been a major influence in the burbs, the singer and many others don't always have lyrics they can relate to. What he realized is that, just at Eminem is taken seriously because he's true to himself, any self-respecting musician has to keep it real. He thinks that some kids run around looking like they're dressed out of character, trying to be something they're not. For himself, he's realized that you don't have to dress or talk a certain way to love hip hop, enjoy it or to make it.

For Roth, his music focuses on what he knows. His lyrics generally focus on what some critics call middle-class minutiae such as his already influential internet sensation, I Love College. The song is about partying, living the coed life and pizza by the slice. YouTube has exploded with tons of college kids singing the song in their dorm rooms.

The 23-year-old is making a name for himself and establishing his own identity with his debut album, Asleep In The Bread Aisle, in stores now.
