Daniel Craig is back as James Bond for his third time around and the film’s 23rd installment, entitled Skyfall. The first trailer has been released, which alludes to a new mission, shows us some impressive landscape views, emotional circumstances, and obviously some car and train crashes, all crisp and vibrant striking. The meaning of this film’s title might be a particularly upsetting mission from Bond’s past (which we see in flashback), but more will be further revealed in the film.
What we do know is that the character M has some potentially destructive secrets revealed, and Bond is called on to fix the problems. There are two new Bond girls, played by French actress Berenice Marlohe and Naomie Harris. There is little speaking in the trailer, but we do hear Bond say: “Some men are coming to kill us. We’re going to kill them first.”
In other casting choices, Javier Bardem appears as the film’s villain, Raoul Silva, Judi Dench returns as M, and Ralph Fiennes will play a character named Mallory.
Skyfall is directed by Sam Mendes, who has described Bond’s character experience as "lassitude, boredom, depression, [and] difficulty with what he’s chosen to do for a living.” Perhaps this is why we are so fond of his character -- while badass, he’s still warm-blooded and struggles with emotion like the rest of us. The film’s cinematographer is Roger Deakins, who has teamed up with Mendes before on two particularly powerful films: Jarhead and Revolutionary Road.
This is the first Bond film to be released in IMAX venues, and the longest running franchise of all time. It is set for release in the UK on October 26 and in U.S. on November 9.
