Shaun Phillips was not only the first member of his family to graduate college, but he now has four seasons of NFL experience to add to his accomplishments. Shaun, a linebacker for the San Diego Chargers, grew up in Willingboro, New Jersey where he was selected to play in the Governor's Bowl New Jersey-New York All-Star game. He was also lettered in basketball and track. Phillips went on to play college football at Purdue University where started 49 straight games. It was there that he graduated as Purdue's all-time sacks leader with 33.5. He was a second-team All-American and was first-team all-conference.After being drafted in 2004 by the Chargers, he played all 16 games even as a rookie. In his second season, he recorded seven sacks in 15 games. After his teammate Steve Foley was shot, Shaun moved into the starting LB spot. He was quick to impress and was second alternate for the 2007 Pro Bowl.In February of 2007, the Chargers signed Shaun to a six-year extension through 2012.
