West soon made his film debut with a supporting role in the Liberty Heights, Barry Levinson's film about a Jewish family in Baltimore. He went on to co-star in the teen comedies Whatever It Takes and Get Over It.Then came West's big break. He was cast opposite singer/actress Mandy Moore in 2002's hit, A Walk to Remember, which grossed $41 million in the United States.West followed this film with a turn in the action film, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and in 2004, he joined the cast of NBC's long running medical television series, ER as intern/third year resident Ray Barnett.Shane most recently starred in the independent film What We Do Is Secret, playing Darby Crash, a member of the 1970s punk band The Germs. Members of the original band were so taken with West's performance that they re-formed the band with West taking the deceased Crash's place. But Shane also has his own band as actors often do. He fronts the rock outfit, Jonny Was", which performs in clubs in LA and the OC, and even managed to land a song on the soundtrack to, A Walk to Remember. He also dedicated a song to the late actor Jonathan Brandis of "SeaQuest DSV".The band started as a 3 piece in 1998, but after gaining in popularity with the success of Shane's acting career, they shifted into a 5-piece band along with Brett Klorer, Casey McGuire, Justin Mcarthy, and Matt Jefferson. Powerful lyrics, enchanting harmonies, and a bond between the members led to a rapidly growing fan base.
