Shakin' It with Metro Station |
|

It took me a quick minute to fall in love with Metro Station.
You see, I tend to initially reject anything that makes me feel ancient because of a retro '80s vibe to it. Being reminded of things from over twenty years ago forces me to face the fact that I'm supposed to be mature and stuff. That makes me cringe. I refuse to accept I'm not a stupid teenager anymore. I'm still stupid and nobody can tell me different.
Still, in my position I appreciate two things; I live in L.A., where thanks to pioneering Hollywood celebs I'll never look a day over 25, and two, bands that remind me the '80s were, in fact, pretty awesome. Musically.
The big shoulder pads and oversize color blocked shirts are still cringe-worthy, but give me a good synthesizer riff with a backbeat any day of the week and I'm instantly grooving. Metro Station delivers just that. Musically.
Stylistically, the band thankfully embraces a departure from '80s fashions. They're mod kids, tattooed and mop haired with body piercings.
With their first single, Shake It, the guys have a sure-fire hit on their hands.
Fun Facts: Metro Station was started by Mason Musso and Trace Cyrus in 2006 after their mothers introduced them to each other on the set of Hannah Montana. Mason's brother, Mitchel, and Trace's sister, Miley, are the show's stars. You might have heard of them!
Meanwhile, an intern in Columbia Records' Walking Eye program discovered the band while looking through the Myspace Music charts. They were signed shortly thereafter.
This summer, the guys hit the road with Boys Like Girls and Good Charlotte for a cross-country tour. As the temperature rises, so will their popularity - and (literally) that's What's Hot!
