Young Hollywood loves Selena Gomez: We've had our eyes on the young starlet from back in her Barney days to now, the star of Wizards of Waverly Place! That's why we named her a Verge to Emerge artist; someone who we see becoming the next world superstar. Right now, I'm really focused on my music, she says. I'm in the studio [and] just wrote my first song that's going to be on my record. She's super excited about the album, which will hit later this year. Although her demanding TV studio schedule also includes shooting movies and leaves her little time with family and friends, I really love what I do. I would do anything for it, she enthuses. Sometimes it gets exhausting and sometimes you complain about the little things, but then you realize, 'ok, I'm doing what I love to do.' Her advice to Hollywood hopefuls is straight forward: It's all about being passionate about it, she says. You have to learn how to handle rejection, I've been told 'no' a lot in this town. When I was 12, I was told I'd never, ever have my own show because I wasn't any good. She laughs. Well, three years later Now she's a major tween star, soon to be mainstream breakout. Still, she remains grounded. My grandmother always used to say, 'don't forget where you're from.' I always say to listen to your parents, she adds. I know that's clich and sometimes as a teenager you don't want to, but my mom has given me the best advice ever. Whether it's about my career or personal life, she's always there for me.
