What better way to open the 8th annual Zurich Film Festival than with a stoner action thriller? The Swiss festival have decided on Oliver Stone’s Savages to kick off the festivities.
The film, which stars Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson, Blake Lively, and John Travolta (just to name a few) did relatively well in the United States. Since its July 6th premiere, it has earned $46 million domestically. However, it has yet to make to voyage across the pond.
International distributors haven't released the action-packed film because of the highly televised Euro 2012 as well as the London Olympics. Once the Olympics are over, the savages are welcome to come out and play.
The film will be shown throughout Europe over the course of September and October. I believe that both the stars and the movie itself will see a large jump in box office success at that time. Before the months of November and December, Fall can typically be a slow time for movies. With a big Hollywood film like Savages, however, there will be something to entertain the masses before movie season really kicks into gear.
The film festival runs from September 20 up until the 30th. I am anxious to see how a gritty movie like Savages is received with our European neighbors. I am confident that they will love it as much, if not more, than we did!
