Rumer Willis: Chanteuse in the Making?

Rumer Willis stopped by The Sayers Club in Hollywood this week, but not just for any old good time -- she came to sing! The 23-year-old got up on stage and performed the following song covers: Otis Redding's “Sittin’ On the Dock of the Bay”, Ann Peebles’s “I Can’t Stand the Rain”, Lianne La Havas’s “Age”, and My Brightest Diamond’s “High Low Middle”. She sang alongside a band to a remarkably intimate audience for such a full room, a scenario that Sayers manages so well.

It’s not surprising that the girl has inherited talent and an inclination towards entertainment, and I am happy to report that Rumer has a truly lovely voice. I was curious. There is a natural and untouched element about it, and the range she pulled out as she went along was impressive. My mind keeps wanting to link her to a road trip; I could see her singing out the back seat window cruising across the plains... What? That totally happens!

She mentioned that one of the songs was a new favorite by way of a friend’s recommendation, and, in fact, all four song choices seemed personal (not calculating), which garners immediate interest and trust from a crowd. Plus, she seemed so darn sweet and authentic, grinning as she went along in her flowing white dress. I got the feeling that she was thrilled to be there, and the crowd was thrilled to have her.

Apparently, Ashton Kutcher sat front and center alongside her friends, supporting her throughout the set... although I can’t say I noticed this myself. I was too busy watching the gal! I did, however, notice the paparazzi waiting patiently outside for their shot.

I’m interested to find out if this is a career step or a hobby for Rumer. Either way, I support!
