Part of being a working dj is taking time to sort through music from up-and-coming artists that comes across your plate. I will be honest, a lot of it isn't great, especially in today's world where everyone is a producer, rapper, singer and songwriter, thanks to the internet. Being a big fan of anything hip-hop, it pains me to get some of these so called "artist" mixtapes or singles in my inbox that are just plain...stale. But a few years ago my good friend, Nick Schrunk, who, by the way, is a GENIUS photographer for Red Bull Energy Drink (Check his site out for some pics of some killer athletes & musicians on the up-and-up!), started feeding me some remixes and singles from a guy named Andre Lipsey out of Minnesota.

The first thing I heard of his was a little remix he did of Katy Perry's "Hot and Cold". Sure, it was fun and he definitely proved he had some skill to spit over someone else's beat, but I didn't think I would be sitting here two years later writing an article on him to introduce him to you all. His flow is something new and fresh and it goes hand in hand with his production (which he does on his own as well!) In a market where grills and rapping about money and ridiculous material possessions is key, Andre offers a fresh take on hip hop with substance. His look is clean, he has a sense of humor and his flow is smooth.

The more original material I get from him, the bigger the fan I become. I even started sending him some tracks to add a verse to so I could play them out! His first single off his new album North Star is called "I'm Good (Hater Magnet)" Check out the video below!
