In celebration of the life of an icon and a musical legend, we honor the queen of soul, pop, and R&B. On this day, August 9, 2012, we remember the birth of the late fabulous Whitney Houston. It’s hard to believe that it’s been six months since she’s passed; it’s as if she never left. While Whitney is no longer with us physically, we still feel her great presence. Whitney’s light shines brighter than ever. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of millions of fans around the world. Whitney was the “It” artist of our generation. She touched and inspired so many people and influenced the careers of countless artists. It’s been close to 3 decades since she emerged onto the scene, and she continues to shape the musical landscape. This is how we want to remember Whitney -- as the unrivaled and awe-inspiring diva.
Whitney exited this world far too soon but left us with a little gift that I’m sure fans will enjoy. As a long-time Whitney fan, I’m looking forward to seeing her last performance in the remake of the 1976 musical film, Sparkle. Whitney not only stars in this film, but was also the executive producer. Her swan song, “Celebrate”, which is a duet with singer and “American Idol” alum, Jordin Sparks, will be featured on the Sparkle soundtrack. “Celebrate” is currently available on iTunes and it’s already on my playlist! I’m sure you're counting down the days until Sparkle is released in theaters! August 17, 2012, is the big day! You can check out the official trailer (and hear "Celebrate") here.
Aside from the movie tribute and the release of her upcoming picture, let’s take a look back at Whitney Houston’s record-breaking hits and be reminded once again of the voice that earned her the title as Queen of Pop. Happy Birthday, Whitney. We will always love you!
