Red Hot Chili Peppers Releasing Some New Old Music

Over the next six months, you can expect to hear a lot of new stuff from Red Hot Chili Peppers. They have 18 previously unreleased sides from their I’m With You sessions that will be released shortly. The songs that didn’t make the 2011 album will be available digitally as well as on seven inch vinyl.

Six pairs of sides will be released (A and B side), the first one in September, next in October, then November, and December, and then two more in 2013. Known song title pairs at this point are “Strange Man” and “Long Progression”, “Magpies” and “Victorian Machinery”, and  “Never Is A Long Time” and “Love Of Your Life”.

On the release format, guitarist Josh Klinghoffer says: “Finding songs that seem to want to join hands with others is a special task that requires the right people... and the right songs! Some songs seem to have a lot more of an agenda than others. Some songs play well with others and some songs need more attention and a little extra care. Here are some songs that seemed to want to pair up and take a later train. Keep your eye on them, they're up to something."

Interesting how the songs are referenced in such a way that they seem to have their own agendas. Besides the listening factor, they will also be interesting to look at. Each of the seven-inchers will have unique cover artwork by the artist Kelsey Brookes, who has an interesting blend of backgrounds in microbiology, folk art, and surf culture. The covers of each vinyl can also be combined to make one large piece of art, but you’ll have to practice your patience over the next few months if you choose to do so.

The band, which was indicted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just this past April is currently on a world tour. They will be making a stop at Lollapalooza in August.
