Quick Guide to Memorial Day Weekend Festivities!

What does Memorial Day weekend mean to you? The unofficial mark of “summer, summer, summertime; time to sit sit back and unwind”? Getting your grub on at a family barbecue? Enjoying an outdoorsy event with a loved one? The half-yearly sale at Nordstrom? Perhaps it means all of the above! However, we all know that recreational activities are secondary to the importance of this holiday weekend.

On Memorial Day, we remember and honor our fallen soldiers. We pay our respects to all the courageous men and women who died while serving our country. We also honor all of our troops who are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces and fighting for our country and our freedom. On this day of observance, we not only remember our veterans and troops, but also their families who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Whether you decide to visit a cemetery and place flowers on the graves of our fallen heroes, say a prayer for the family of those who serve/have served our nation, or, at the very least, participate in the “National Moment of Remembrance” at 3:00pm on Monday, pause, reflect, and thank all for their service to our country. Below are a list of events happening on Memorial Day weekend. Enjoy, soak up some sun, and eat lots of delicious food!

Valley Greek Festival - I’ll be in line for the spinach, feta, and filo bite of heaven called the Spanakopita. A wonderful cultural experience with music, food, and fun-filled activities. Did I mention the folk dance? Opa!

JazzReggae Festival - Spend a beautiful day in Southern California at the 26th annual JazzReggae Fest! Great atmosphere, 30,000+ people, food, and an epic musical lineup including The Roots, Booker T. Jones, Shaggy, Don Carlos, and more! Don’t miss it!

Walk For Warriors - This 5k run/walk will be hosted by Christine Devine on Memorial Day. It’s a wonderful way to get involved in the community and support our troops and veterans. If you can’t participate in the event, then you can always make a donation!

Canoga Park Memorial Day Parade - A fun and festive way to spend Memorial Day! The parade starts at 11:00am and it includes military marching units, cars, equestrians, and floats. This day of observance continues with yummy food and music at Quimby Park!

Queen Mary Memorial Day - The Queen Mary pays tribute to U.S. Military Veterans by offering free admission with a complimentary WWII tour, access to the Submarine, and the Ghosts and Legends Show. Immediate family will also receive discounted admission!

Fiesta Hermosa - Tons of vendors, arts and crafts galore, live music, a food court with 18 different ethnic food choices, and a charity beer and wine garden! Wear a comfortable pair of shoes for all the walking!

Memorial Day Yacht Party - For the ultimate summer kickoff head over to Marina Del Rey for a mini-cruise and BBQ! It’s not a yacht party unless it has four levels of entertainment, right? You can expect DJs, bottle service, cabanas, karaoke, and much more!

Inglewood's 64th Annual Memorial Day Celebration - The ceremonies will take place in front of the Memorial Obelisk Monument at Inglewood City Hall and will honor our fallen soldiers and our troops who are currently serving in the armed forces.

Have a happy and safe Memorial Day Weekend! A special salute and thank you to all the courageous men and women who have served/are serving our country!
