There was a lot of buzz going around at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, but the buzz was not just about the films that were being shown, it was about the fashion. To be more specific, it was all about the sneakers, the kicks, the tennis shoes, or the tennies, depending on which part of the US you are from. There are two particular brands that are making their comeback in Young Hollywood fashion. Those brands are PF Flyers and New Balance. Both of these brands have been able to change the style of their respective sneakers without changing their look. Both PF Flyers and New Balance have brought a breath of fresh air to their retro style of sneakers by introducing different color and pattern schemes that attract the hip Young Hollywood crowd and the older generation because they are getting a sneaker that is not filled with a bunch of pumps, air bubbles, pockets, and contraptions. Most importantly, both these brands have sneakers that are very comfortable to walk in for long periods of time, even after taking them right out of the box for the first time and putting them on your feet. And, after walking up and down Main Street at Sundance, one would understand the importance of wearing a comfortable, yet stylish shoe. There is at least one celebrity that can attest to this. Ryan Tedder, the lead singer of One Republic, lost his entire luggage when he arrived at Sundance. Ryan decided to pick up some clothing from the gifting suites to get him through his stay there. One of the gifting suites Ryan visited was the Boost Mobile Marquee Lounge where the PF Flyers / New Balance booth was located. He walked away with PF Flyers tees, shoes & hats. Later that night at Harry O's, he sported one of his pairs of PF Flyers sneakers and gave a shout out in appreciation of being taken care of in his time of crisis.Dennis Quaid also held the PF Flyers in very high praise. It actually brought back memories for him from when he was a child growing up. Dennis was quoted as saying I use to have PF Flyers when I was a kid. I wore them out. Dennis even recalled the PF Flyers slogan of run faster, jump higher. To give you an idea of just how long PF Flyers have been in the sneaker game, NBA legend, retired Boston Celtic great, and top 50 greatest basketball player, Bob Cousy, wore PF Flyers during his playing days in the 1950's, when the Boston Celtics dominated the NBA winning championships.Paris Hilton also visited the PF Flyers / New Balance booth. Paris picked up a pair of blue and green New Balance sneakers as well as a pair of black New Balance 992's. The thing that a lot of people do not know about Paris Hilton is that she has large feet that require a shoe size of 11. New Balance is known for making comfortable shoes that can accommodate those of us that have awkward feet. New Balance has also set the bar in the sport of running. They are considered by many running enthusiasts to be the best in the sport. Even Dennis Quaid said that he only runs in New Balance sneakers!Make no mistake about it; both PF Flyers and New Balance have definitely made their mark at Sundance 2008 and will continue to do so for many years to come. With all of the new styles and new looks of fashion that have been coming to the forefront this year, the resurgence of both these sneaker brands could not have come at a better time. PF Flyers and New Balance have definitely proven that they are still considered one of the top dogs in the designer footwear line and both are what's hot now. Both brands have clearly shown off their versatility and that they are a force to be reckoned with. And to think that the Boston based parent company for these brother and sister sneaker brands started out as a company that just made arch supports for shoes! Making a resurgence is nothing new for either one of these brands for that is what they have been doing in every decade since the existence of their sneakers.
