If you have turned on the radio within the past few months, chances are you have heard the hit single, Apologize, from the pop rock band, OneRepublic. The group originally formed in Colorado Springs and was started by lead vocalist, Ryan Tedder, and his friend from high school, Zach Filkins. The pair moved to Los Angeles where they expanded their band to include Drew Brown, Eddie Fisher and Tim Myers. In the summer of 2005, they signed a deal with Columbia Records and entered into the studio to work on an album. The group only stayed with Columbia briefly before moving on to their current label, Mosley Music Group, a joint venture with Interscope Records that was created by mega producer Tim Timbaland Moseley. In 2007, Tim Myers left the band and Brent Kutzle joined them, adding a unique twist to their music with his cello skills. The band released some of their music on their MySpace page and quickly became a phenomenon, becoming the number one band on the site, and they have been consistently in MySpace Music's Top Artists since the summer of 2006. They garnered over 12 million song plays before they even released their debut album! On November 20, 2007 they released their album, Dreaming Out Loud, which contains their first single, Apologize. The song is also featured as a remix on Timbaland's album, Shock Value. Being on both albums has given the group maximum exposure, helping them reach pop, rock and urban audiences. The single became an instant domestic and international hit, going double platinum in the United States and peaking at number 3 on the U.K. Official Top 40. The band performed their single live on Fox's reality show, So You Think You Can Dance as well as on the soap, One Life to Live. The song was also featured on CBS' popular television series Cold Case, and CW's new smash series, Gossip Girl. Their second single, Stop and Stare, has been steadily climbing the charts. The heart of the group is Ryan Tedder, OneRepublic's co-founder, lead vocalist and songwriter. He wrote the songs for their debut album based on his life experiences and the road he took to get him from his roots in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Los Angeles. The songs on the album are about life's twist and turns and the journey along the way, making them instantly accessible and understandable to listeners of all types. In addition to the work he has done with the band, Ryan is a Grammy nominated writer and has worked with such talented artists as Natasha Bedingfield, Jennifer Lopez, Lil' Jon, and Paul Oakenfold.OneRepublic considers themselves to be influenced by everyone from The Beatles to U2 and it clearly shows in their music. Ryan has said that he would like a person to go to a OneRepublic show and walk away feeling like he or she has had a religious experience. The group toured with various acts in 2007 and is currently on tour throughout the United States. They will also be touring with Maroon 5 through Australia and New Zealand in March and April of this year. The Young Hollywood team has been following the band closely for quite a few months now, and we believe that this emerging band has nothing but the brightest future ahead of them.To find out more about the band and check out their tour dates, go to www.myspace.com/onerepublic or www.onerepublic.net.
