Every spring in Long Beach, the celebrities come out to put their driving skills to the test for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. It’s a chance for the stars to put the petal to the metal without worrying about catching the disapproving eye of the CHP! The race has been held (under various names and sponsors) since 1977 and has crowned many a celebrity champion, including Gene Hackman (1980), Jason Bateman (1987), Donny Osmond (1991), Frankie Muniz (2005), Keanu Reeves (2009), and both James and Josh Brolin (1978 and 2000, respectively).
YH has attended the race thrice in the past four years, cheering on the likes of Jamie Little, Brian Austin Green, and William Fichtner. We returned once more this year, handing the YHN mic over to pro driver Shannon McIntosh and sending her out to get the scoop from the stars… and a little smack-talk as well! Fichtner returned to defend his title and seemed to be feeling the pressure despite his protests to the contrary. Oscar winner Adrien Brody was on-hand to see if he could parlay his acting talents into racecar driving. Jillian Barberie-Reynolds and Eileen Davidson were there to represent the ladies – only two women have ever won the race in the past (Jamie Little and Dara Torres), so the pressure was on! And Brody Jenner competed to try and become the second-ever father-son duo to boast wins at the race (after the Brolins) – his father Bruce won the race twice, in 1979 and 1982.
But not if Adam Carolla has anything to say about it! The omnipresent competitor clearly had the younger Jenner in his crosshairs, talking all kinds of mess about him to Shannon! Clearly, he was more than a little threatened. But he needn’t have been, as Adam eventually took home the title. Well, there’s always next year, Brody!
