It is often said that in Hollywood appearance is everything. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the hit television series, Nip/Tuck.ù The show airs Tuesday nights at 10 PM on FX and centers around two plastic surgeons, Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) and Christian Troy (Julian McMahon), who have recently relocated from Miami to Beverly Hills to start their private practice, McNamara/Troy. The show, a tongue in cheek look at a world that is ruled by the ultimate goal of gaining absolute perfection externally, was an instant hit for FX when it debuted in 2003 and has garnered numerous Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for both its talented cast, its writing and makeup/special effects. In 2005 it won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series " Drama and is currently in its fifth season on television.Series creator, Ryan Murphy, has said that the medical cases on the show are 100% based on actual cases, making it unique from most medical shows on television today. The show has also seen its share of controversy over the years. Its explicit sexual and surgical scenes, which it is allowed to have due to its late hour and viewer discretion warnings, have often come under fire with the Parents Television Council. Ironically, it is the controversy that has made the show a subject of water cooler chatter in offices everywhere across the country. Nip/Tuckù has continuously been such a success that it was meant to be in production for 22 episodes this season, the longest order yet from FX. Due to the Writer's Strike, it has been cut short and, much like other television shows, it remains to be seen whether the show will return to finish its season out.Season five of Nip/Tuckù has focused mainly on the surgeons rebuilding their private practice in Beverly Hills and centers around six series regulars: Dylan Walsh, Julian McMahon, Joely Richardson (Julia McNamara), John Hensley (Matt McNamara), Roma Maffia (Dr. Liz Cruz) and Kelly Carlson (Kimber Henry). Its popularity has also attracted top guest stars like Bradley Cooper, Portia de Rossi, Lauren Hutton, Oliver Platt and John Schneider. The most popular guest star on previous episodes, Rosie O'Donnell, is also reprising her role as lottery winner, Dawn Budge.ùIf the ratings success, engaging writing and awards recognition aren't enough, the show's main stars, Dylan Walsh and Julian McMahon, sure lend some extra heat to every episode. Dylan Walsh, a partner and surgeon in McNamara/Troy, has recently guest starred in the hit series Law & Order: Special Victims Unitù and appeared in the Lifetime Christmas movie, Christmas Miracleù this past December. His other film and television credits include The Lake Houseù with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves, We Were Soldiersù with Mel Gibson and recurring roles in the television shows, Everwoodù and Brooklyn South.ù Australian actor Julian McMahon makes up the second half of McNamara/Troy. He received a Golden Globe nomination in 2005 for his work on the series and reprised his role this past summer as the villain, Victor Von Doom, in the hit film sequel, Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer.ù He has also appeared in the original film adaptation, Fantastic Fourù and in Premonitionù with Sandra Bullock. His television credits include Profilerù and Charmed.ùAppearances might count for something in Hollywood, but the talented cast and excellent writing of Nip/Tuckù prove that it isn't everything!
