The Big Apple’s first-ever music week kicks off today, and will continue through June 21, as a celebration to honor the international music and entertainment industries. Hosted by New Music Seminar and the NYC Mayor's Office of Music & Entertainment, the week is set to introduce new ideas, artists, and events to foster the music of tomorrow. One of the week’s most prominent events will be the 43rd Annual Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala, which will inducte Bob Seger and Tom Jones. The Gala will also honor Bette Midler, Ne-Yo, Lance Freed, and Woodie Guthrie with individual awards, and guests will include Taylor Swift, Rob Thomas, Alicia Keys, and John Legend.
The festival will also include a wide array of awards, events, and seminars. One of the biggest conferences will be the New Music Seminar, held through June 17-19, which will include 150 leading musical innovators and leaders who will lead a series of panels discussing the future of the music industry. The conference will also include 100 of the hottest breakout artists, including Hoodie Allen, DJ Donna D’Cruz, and DJ Andy Rourke, who will kick off the event on Sunday, June 17.
A2IM will celebrate their 7th anniversary by hosting Indie Week, which will take place June 19-21. Indie Week will include panels on marketing/PR in the Indie music industry, progressive meetings discussing the issues facing indie artists, and The Liberia Awards (“The Libbies”), which will take place on June 21 at Le Poisson Rouge.
Make Music New York will close the entire week with an array of 1,000 different outside concerts, taking place all throughout New York City’s five different boroughs. It’s going to be one rockin' week!
