NEW MUSIC: Priscilla Renea Busts Out of the ‘Dollhouse’

All these years in Los Angeles and I’ve only driven by the world-famous Capitol Records Tower. Imagine my excitement when I’m invited to interview new music sensation Priscilla Renea at their offices! They let me take a picture in the lobby like a tourist and everything.

Upon meeting Priscilla, I’m immediately stuck by her poise and style. She’s quick to drop the dime on a deal (that’s my kind of girl!) and tells me to mention ModCloth.com - one of her favorite online shops.

“You have to check it every day, or they sell out,” she warns, “especially with the shoes.”

She’s keen to fashion, as well as her image. “I like how I look, but I wear a belt around the waist to make it look thinner, wear longer sleeves to make my arms look alright,” she says with precision, adding playfully, “Then I’m straight.”

Looking good alright! She sounds even better. After breaking down an acoustic version of her song ‘Dollhouse’ to the delight of myself and the Capitol crew, it’s easy to see why they’re so behind her. Talent speaks for itself.

“I’ve been playing guitar for two years, playing piano for probably about 10,” Priscilla tells me. “I took piano lessons off and on because I was a military brat, so it was really hard to be consistent. I moved around a lot. I started singing very young in church…my mom made me, I didn’t really have a choice.”

Mrs. Renea is still a strong influence with her daughter: “My mom always said; ‘don’t lie to me.’ Now that I’m an adult, if I lie to you, what are you going to do if I tell you the truth? You’re not going to beat me; you’re not going to take off your belt. I don’t have anything to worry about, so I might as well tell the truth.”

She adds: “If you ask me, I’m going to tell you. I’m tactful though, I’m not mean.”

Honestly, she’s far from it. The lovely young lady I met is bright and full of life, yet down to earth and real. Count me as a fan!

Priscilla’s debut album, JUKEBOX, is out now.
