Facebook holds a large amount of power in today’s society, but are we ready for it to make our fashion choices for us? Are you ready to take the opinions of thousands of strangers before you indulge in your latest wardrobe splurge?
Brazilian retailer C&A has invented special clothes hangers that shows you how many "likes" each look has collected from the social media community before you part with your hard-earned cash. C&A is calling this revolution the “Fashion Like”. They will have each item in their shop linked to their Facebook page, and every time a "like" is clicked, the clothing hanger is automatically updated! Sounds very modern and technical. But are we ready for a a shopping experience that is no longer based on your own opinion? We all know that every customer will be swayed by the high and low "thumbs up" count that each garment possesses.
The advertising video put together by C&A targets women’s insecurities about firmly deciding on an outfit. It highlights the need for that second opinion, whether you're shopping alone or with a friend. But instead of having your friend tell you nicely that maybe that color is a bit dark for your skin tone, but you still look pretty!... you might just have to deal with more negative comments about the items from the wide world of Facebook.
Facebook is certainly taking over every avenue of the real world and is having a larger impact on society than just in the virtual industry. So, next time you run to the mall to grab something, take a moment to think -- WWFS (What Would Facebook Say)?!
