Naomi Watts Channels Princess Di: UPDATE!

The first pictures of Naomi Watts portraying Princess Diana in the upcoming biopic Caught In Flight have finally surfaced, and let’s just say Watts looks nothing short of STUNNING!

“I don’t think anyone else could have done it,” said co-star Naveen Andrews (who is playing Dr. Hasnat Khan, a rumored ex-lover of Di's) about Watts’s performance. “There’s no one else.”

Watts was cast for the role of Princess Di earlier this year, and (much to the chagrin of other actress who were rumored to be more fitting and also vying for the roll) with the recent pictures of her in royal garb that were just recently released online, it’s no wonder why. Watts is a striking and lovely vision of the late royal who died after a Paris car crash back in 1997.

Caught in Flight will be directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, produced by U.K.-based Ecosse Films, and focuses mainly on the last two years of the royal humanitarian’s life as she tries to find happiness and balance.

“It is such an honor to be able to play this iconic role,” said Watts in a statement earlier this year. “Princess Diana was loved across the world, and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen.”

“The filmmakers came to me and it's a good script and it's very scary and I kind of wanted to say no but I couldn't,” Watts added.

We certainly cannot wait to see Watts in this surely stellar performance and portrayal as one of the world’s leading and most loved public figures. Check out more pics below and tell us what you think!

UPDATE: The production company behind Caught In Flight has released the first OFFICIAL still from the film! See below -- With the right lighting and context, Naomi's embodiment of the People's Princess seems even more uncanny now!! Also, the company has announced that the film has been retitled, simply, Diana. Good move! Thoughts?
