Fans of Lady GaGa probably already know DJ Dan thanks to his booty shaking remix of ‘Paparazzi.’ I hooked up with the mix-master for an electronic chat!

“After GaGa and her producer Vince listened to the remix, they invited me in for a meeting to listen to her follow up single ‘Bad Romance.’” He tells me of his work with the pop diva. “I was then offered the song to remix.”

“I was very lucky to have a big family that supported me with my passion for music,” DJ Dan says. “When I was 2, my cousins bought me a turntable and the fascination with records began then. Records were my toys.”

“As I got into high school, my obsession with learning to mix and making mixes for my friends began,” he says. “It was always my obsession and passion to find the hottest tracks. As I progressed into college, I started DJ'ing at small house and top 40 clubs in Seattle. Then when I moved to L.A., I met this promoter at a Frankie Bones show and he said he was throwing a party with Doc Martin, Barry Weaver and Ron D. Core. I gave him my mix and he hired me because he liked my sound. I then became friends with Ron D. Core and we started playing together at every party from that day forward. We created the DX2 Mixtape series and things really started to kick off from that point on.”

With his success comes experience and DJ wisdom. To those young bucks trying to break into the scene, “Focus on your sound and make it uniquely yours,” he advises. “Play from your inspirations throughout the years. Remember, being a DJ is your opportunity to tell your story to the people on the dance floor. Record your mixes when you practice at home and listen to them.” He adds: “Be comfortable with your gear. There are so many different programs that people are using these days and everyone has their own personal preference. Find yours and learn it well!”

DJ Dan's Future/Retro EP and his '10 album are hitting the decks in 2010.
