Every screenwriter’s dream is for their work to somehow reach the big screen. Luckily for them, Roman Coppola may be able to make that very dream come true with his competition called "Four Stories".
Collaborating with Intel and W Hotels Worldwide, Coppola’s goal is to have writers upload their own screenplays depicting the nature of constant traveling. The only restrictions on the creative process of the screenwriters is that the story must take place at a W Hotel and that an Intel Ultrabook must be utilized in some way in the film. Three winners from across the globe will be chosen, and their scripts will be transformed by Coppola into three 10-minute shorts. He will also write and direct a fourth short which will round out the "Four Stories".
I applaud Coppola for opening a door in order to give writers a chance in the industry. Although he is a successful screenwriter himself (Moonrise Kingdom), and comes from a very talented family (anyone heard of Francis Ford Coppola or Sofia Coppola?), any writer knows how hard it is to catch your first big break. Coppola is a quirky and creative artist, so I think he is the perfect candidate to run this competition. He is a person who will not shy away from different or alternative modes of storytelling that might stray from the norm.
You can submit up until August 30. I encourage every aspiring writer to check out the competition at intel.com/fourstories. Good luck! And thanks, Roman!
