Meet the Schrutes: New Details of the "Office" Spin-Off

"The Office"’s Dwight Schrute is about to finally become the boss. The boss of a large family bed and breakfast. And, oh yes, he will still be a beet farmer.

Rainn Wilson’s spin-off, "The Farm", not only follows the off-the-wall Dwight but his entire quirky family. In "The Farm", which will premiere as a sneak-peek during season 9 of "The Office", you will get to meet Dwight’s kin (which will hopefully explain why he is so bonkers).

The members of Dwight’s family have been revealed, as well as what to expect from each family member. It turns out that Dwight has a younger sister named Fannie, an urbanite in her early-30s who left the Schrute farm to pursue a life in Boston. Described as a “bit of a pseudo-intellectual lefty”, Fannie is now divorced with a son. Dwight’s nephew, Cameron Whitman, is a cosmopolitan 9-year-old who is only “slightly weird”. (Perhaps he inherited some normal genes from the father’s side?) Dwight’s other brother, Jeb, has had a very interesting career path, including a gig as a Bigfoot hunter, but has struggled to find a steady job. Now in his mid-30s, he lacks Dwight’s focus and determination but does have a penchant for making exercise videos that also entail what you can do with a knife and a canoe. (Could this new craze replace Zumba?) And finally, Dwight’s great Uncle Heinrich is manipulative, greedy, and charming -- he sounds like a human version of Uncle Scrooge McDuck from "Ducktales". Unlike Uncle Scrooge, Heinrich may have been a Nazi... and threatens to murder Dwight by the end of the first episode.

I have to admit that this show sounds far more fascinating than "The Office". Dwight has always been one of my favorite characters on the show, and I think it’s time for him to have his own chance to shine (as well as for Wilson to show off more of his brilliant comedic chops). I do hope that cousin Mose, portrayed by "Office" co-executive producer Michael Schur, pops up at some point too; although, considering how mysterious Mose is, he may have taken over the Bigfoot hunting job from Jeb...

Who would you like to see play the members of Dwight’s family?
