Matt White

You can say that the opposite sex and the endless quest for love is responsible for pushing New Jersey native, Matt White, to become a singer/songwriter. This newcomer to the scene grew up surrounded by music, as his grandmother was one of the first jazz orchestra leaders in the 1930s, and his family's love of music inspired him to take piano lessons at the young age of three. In high school, he was an athlete who participated in both the swim and lacrosse teams, but it was music that he turned to in order to soothe his restless soul. When he graduated from high school, this hopeless romantic followed a woman to the University of Wisconsin, where he learned to play the guitar. The romance might not have worked out but his passion for music was reignited through the guitar, and upon receiving his degree, he moved to one of his all time favorite places, New York City. Matt's musical education was greatly expanded through his experience in the Big Apple. He would often grab his guitar and perform on the sidewalks of Greenwich Village and Bleecker Street and in Washington Square Park. He also started to play with local artists in popular clubs like Joe's Pub and the Living Room. Matt created a MySpace page and gradually, thanks to word of mouth that built up from his performances, he received an increasing amount of visitors to his webpage. He now has over 50,000 friends on his page! Due to the success of his MySpace page and his performances, he got the attention of Geffen Records, where he released an EP entitled Bleecker Street Stories in the spring of 2006. His EP went on to sell over 40,000 songs on iTunes. On September 18, 2007, Matt released his first full length album, Best Days, through Geffen. Matt's songs are instantly relatable as they are often about matters of the heart, such as the search for love with a true companion, and the awkward experience of growing up and finding out who you really are. His debut album is primarily about his different relationships, as this talented songwriter admits that he falls in love easily. With romantic songs on his album like I'll Be There, Miracles, and New York Girls, it is apparent that his inspiration does indeed come from the female population. He says that his first single, also titled Best Days, is about a girl, whom I cannot name, who challenged me to go camping .so we went but she never called me after that. Matt is definitely a musician to keep your eyes and ears on. In October, 2007 he sang the National Anthem for a full capacity stadium during the NY Jets/Buffalo Bills game. His new single was also recently featured on the CBS series, Cane, and many of his songs have been featured on television shows like Laguna Beach, One Tree Hill, and Men In Trees, and in the motion pictures, She's The Man with Amanda Bynes and the animated feature, Shrek the Third. Matt is currently on tour and has already played over one hundred shows this year. It is plain to see that the best days for Matt are right in front of him, and we here at Young Hollywood can't wait to hear him sing his sweet melodies for years to come!
