Sure, you've heard of Tila Tequila, Forbidden, even the promiscuous " I mean, ubiquitous -- Jeremy Jackson. Now a new MySpace Vixen is climbing the charts as the most viewed personal profile on the MySpace network. Model Mandy Lynn hails from Long Island, New York. She got her first big break by participating in Playboy's 50th Anniversary Playmate Search in 2002. Since then she has appeared in over a dozen Playboy special edition magazines. But her notoriety is exploding because of the popular social networking site, MySpace. You may recall that the woman named Tila Tequila was put on the cover of the April issue of "Stuff''' Magazine because she had the most popular MySpace site on the internet, an epic example of the new age of self-promotion. Tila Tequila subsequently signed a record deal, and although most of her myspace friends are hormone crazed teenage boys, her name has nevertheless seeped into popular culture. Perhaps this is a sign of the decay of American culture: nowadays, you don't need a movie, modeling contract, hit song, sports accomplishment, famous boyfriend, or TV commercial. You merely need your own carefully constructed MySpace profile. Or perhaps we are witnessing the death of anonymity itself, as mavericks like Mandy Lynn pave the way for all of us to experience a blissful fifteen minutes in the spotlight. Paris Hilton graduated from aloof socialite to host of Saturday Night Life. Miracles do happen. And the digital age is only facilitating the process. So perhaps we should be applauding those who -- like Mandy -- are cunning enough to use MySpace for its true and noble purpose: Self promotion.
