Over the weekend I was out at a friend's club in West Hollywood, chilling outside on the patio breaking my resolution to quit smoking. Save the e-mails shaming me, I'm back on the patch. Anyways, we're hanging out and having fun when suddenly there's a break in the retro-pop rotation that inspires a semi-drunken dash upstairs to the dance floor. The cause of all the commotion: I Kissed A Girl is blaring over the loudspeakers. We slide inside as the dance floor pics up with a manic rush of partygoers. It's on! The space is packed and everyone is getting down to the rock-infused beat. My friend Andrea dashes over and clutches my arm, I love this song! she says emphatically. Who is it?! It just isn't always possible to catch the name of the act when you hear a hot track at the club (or on the radio for that matter). Katy Perry, I reply knowingly. In a sea of people, I'm the bacon of pop culture knowledge. My life isn't a waste after all! I live for this. She's on the Warped Tour this summer, I shriek over the music. Get me tickets! she says, dancing away, lost in the music. I don't even get to mention that Katy's BFF, fashionista and stylist to the stars Markus Molinari, will be backstage for the duration - styling the California cutie (and others) on the tour. They need an entertainment edition of Jeopardy! I'd totally win that game. But I digress. The song is What's Hot, not just because of the rocking beat, but also the funky, funny personality behind the sultry looking singer. I think people can appreciate a songwriter who shows different sides, says Katy. The whole angst thing is cool, but if that's all you've got, it's just boring. Everything I write, whether it's happy or sad, has a sense of humor to it. Someone told me the other day that I'm a bit like Lucille Ball. They said, 'You look pretty put together on the outside, but inside there's just something a bit wrong.' Her pop/rock album, One of The Boys, is in stores everywhere. For the CD, she collaborated with the likes of Alanis Morissette, No Doubt, Kelly Clarkson, Avirl Lavigne, Pink, The Donnas, and Natasha Bedingfield. There's your daily dose of entertainment goodness, direct from the source of all-knowing hotness. (That's me!) Word. -Wes Tags: Katy Perry Warped Tour Alanis Morissette No Doubt Kelly Clarkson Avirl Lavigne Pink The Donnas and Natasha Bedingfield
